Introduction

Welcome to Systemic Psychotherapy (SP), founded by Andrea De Ott, where years of clinical practice and university-level scholarship are brought together to provide effective, high-quality psychotherapeutic interventions.

🧠 Our Systemic Approach

Our philosophy is rooted in Systemic Psychotherapy, which views individual challenges within the context of the relational systems (families, groups, and communities) they are part of. We believe that behaviors, emotions, and thought patterns are deeply influenced by these systems. Therefore, our comprehensive approach always includes a careful assessment and treatment that engages the family system.

✨ Innovative Trauma Healing

Andrea De Ott is also the innovator behind Flamenco Psychotherapy, a specialized dance-movement technique she created to effectively decrease stress and reduce intense survival responses related to trauma.

🎓 Expertise and Recognition

Andrea's commitment to the field is evidenced by her significant contributions, including earning the prestigious Robert Mayer Award from Fordham University in 2013, where she also previously taught Family Systems Therapy.

What is Systemic Psychotherapy?

Systemic Psychotherapy (SP), as practiced by Andrea De Ott, is an expansive style of therapy that moves beyond the traditional patient-therapist alliance to adopt a holistic "person-in-environment" perspective, rooted in clinical social work.

This approach recognizes that individual well-being and distress are deeply interconnected with relational systems and socio-political contexts. The goal of SP is dual:

  1. To change the individual's response to their environment.

  2. To target and facilitate change within the systems that affect individual development, such as family, culture, issues of oppression, life purpose, and work activities.

Therefore, SP sustains that political and social issues significantly impact the mind's proper functioning.

🛠️ Techniques and Scope

To achieve this broad, systemic change, SP utilizes a diverse clinical toolkit. This starts with core family systems theories (including structural, experiential, solution-focused, and emotion-focused approaches) and integrates specialized, client-driven techniques like Art Therapy, CBT, DBT, Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic techniques to analyze the therapeutic relationship.
